Banarasi Tomato Chat: From the streets of Banaras to the banks of the Ganges there, we have often heard the discussion of all these. Apart from eating, roaming, dressing, Banaras is also known for its spirituality. Today we are going to tell you a special recipe related to the cuisine of Banaras and that is Banarasi Tomato Chaat.

You will not find this delicious dish packed with ghee and sour-sweet taste anywhere else than in Banaras. Even if one claims to be a Banarasi chaat, there is bound to be some difference in taste. That’s why we have brought for you this dish, which is found directly in the streets of Banaras, which will taste exactly like Banaras.

Tomato – 5-6
Potatoes – 4 boiled
Coriander Powder – 1 tbsp
Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
Tamarind – 1 tbsp (paste)
Ghee – 3 tbsp
Poppy seeds – 2 tsp
Ginger – 2 tsp (grated)
Cashew nuts – 10 (grated)
Green chili – 3 (finely chopped)
Chaat masala – 2 tsp
Garam Masala – 1 tsp
Turmeric – 1 tsp
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Sugar – 4 tbsp
Onion – 1 finely chopped
Green Coriander – cup
Black salt – 1 tsp
Plain salt – as per taste

How to make Banarasi Tomato Chaat

Finely chop the tomatoes. Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a pan, add ginger, green chillies, poppy seeds and cashews and fry for 2 minutes. Now add turmeric, red chili and a little cumin powder to it and immediately after that add chopped tomatoes. Add salt to the tomatoes and cover and let it cook. When the tomatoes start melting, then add one and a half cups of water to it and let it cook till the water and tomatoes become equal. Mash the boiled potatoes and add to the tomato mixture. When tomatoes and potatoes are mixed well, then add garam masala, chaat masala, cumin powder, black-plain salt and tamarind paste.

Put 3 cups of water in a vessel and add sugar to it and let the syrup be ready. When the sugar syrup is ready, then add half a teaspoon cumin powder to it and make gas. Put hot tomato chaat in the vessel in which the chaat is to be served. Pour ghee on top. Add as much sugar syrup as you want in the chaat. Lastly, garnish with onions, green coriander. If you want, you can also add sev namkeen on top. Tomato chaat is ready.
