A day after Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal held a ‘Tiranga Yatra‘ in Gujarat’s Mehsana city, the police Tuesday registered a case against unknown persons for allegedly insulting the national flag at the roadshow.
According to the police, an FIR has been lodged at the Mehsana A Division police station Tuesday against unknown persons under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor (Amendment) Act at the beheest of a complaint by police inspector BM Patel of the Mehsana A Division police station.
According to the police, the FIR was lodged after a local TV news channel broadcast images of flags strewn on the roadside and people stepping on them.
Monday afternoon, Kejriwal led a two-kilometre-long roadshow from an old bus stand in Mehsana where he was joined by thousands of AAP workers with national flags in their hands.

Patel in his complaint said, “Due police permission was sought for the scheduled roadshow of Arvind Kejriwal from the old bus stand in Mehsana. Around 3 pm, AAP workers were distributing national flags to other workers joining the roadshow at gate number 1 of the old bus stand. At that time, a local TV news channel had broadcast a news video on national flags being strewn on the road and people stepping on them. An FIR has been lodged against unknown persons in this regard.”
In another case, an FIR was lodged against four persons for allegedly assaulting the staff members of an event management company after they allegedly pasted banners against Kejriwal in Mehsana ahead of his visit.
According to the police, an FIR has been lodged at the Mehsana B Division police station against four accused — Ashish Patel, Mahadev, Darbar and Bhagat — under sections of rioting, especially IPC sections 323 and 324 for causing hurt and grievous hurt and section 504 for invoking breach of peace.
According to the police, the accused group had allegedly assaulted Pankaj Barot and Girish, employees of an event management company, who were allegedly given the task of installing banners against Kejriwal.
“Around 12:30 am Monday, we were installing banners asking questions to Kejriwal at Modhera chokdi in Mehsana when four men arrived in two scooters and asked us why we were installing banners against Kejriwal. When we told them that we are asking questions to Kejriwal as citizens of Gujarat, the four men started assaulting us,” said Barot in his complaint.
Speaking to The Indian Expressa senior police official in Mehsana said no arrests have been made in both the cases yet.
